Safety first

  • Stop the vehicle in a safe place at, or near to, the scene of the incident.

  • Switch on your hazard lights.

  • If anyone is injured, call an ambulance.

  • If you are unable to move your vehicle to a safe place, ensure everyone is out of the vehicle and moved to a safe area away from traffic.

Information gathering

  • Swap details with the other parties involved, including name, address, telephone. number, insurer details, registration number, vehicle make and model.

  • Take photos of vehicle damage, registration plates and any other damaged property.

  • Take photos of anything else that may be important to the incident, for example, vehicle positions, road signs and junctions.

  • Obtain any dash camera footage.

  • Ask for contact details of any witnesses to the incident.

  • Call the police if your vehicle has been subject to a theft, attempted theft or break-in.

Make a claim

  • Contact the insurer as soon as possible. Their contact number can be found on your policy documents, or in the Claims section of our Help Centre here.

  • If your vehicle needs to be recovered, your insurer will arrange this for you.
